Southfield, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological University men’s basketball team hosted the Saints of Siena Heights University on Saturday afternoon. Both teams played a tough physical game for 40 minutes and LTU was able to hold off a late push by Siena Heights to hold on by a final score of 73-69.

Brandon Beavers led all scorers with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Gunnar Gustafson and Alek Ivanovic both added 14 points each and combined for nine rebounds. Blake Lund came off the bench scoring 11 points and Andrew Rinn finished with six points and seven rebounds.

Gustafson started this game off with the first six points of the game for LTU in the opening minutes of action.

Ivanovic drilled a three-pointer to tie the all-time program record with 12:38 left.

Both teams struggled to get any rhythm going on the offensive end during the first half.

Kiewuan Graham made it 16-14 just over midway through the half.

The Blue Devils then went on an 8-0 run, and during that run, Ivanovic nailed his second three of the game to break the all-time program record. He now has 264 total three-pointers in his career.

With 4:26 to go, Rinn’s layup and Beavers three-pointer gave LTU a double-digit lead, 32-22.

The biggest lead for LTU came right before the half from a Beavers driving layup, making it 39-24.

The Blue Devils entered the locker room up 39-26.

The team shot the ball 16-of-34 (47.1%) from the field and 6-of-16 (37.5%) from deep.

Gustafson connected on back-to-back layups to get things rolling for LTU to start the second half.

Beavers attacked the basket with 15:08 left to give his team an 11-point lead that led to a timeout.

Lund and Ivanovic knocked down back-to-back triples extending their lead to 17 points.

The Saints went on a 7-0 run, cutting their deficit back to 10 points with just under 10 minutes to play.

A Kevin Rice steal and dunk on the other end brought the game back within single digits.

After the Blue Devils went cold on their next couple of possessions, Siena Heights connected on consecutive baskets bringing the lead to 59-58 with 4:06 left.

Lund’s turnaround jumper shot made it 61-58.

The Blue Devils got just enough stops in the final minutes of this game securing the win by a final score of 73-69.

The team shot the ball 27-of-60 (45.0%) from the field, 8-of-26 (30.8%) from three, and shot 11-of-15 (73.3%) from the line.

The next Blue Devils’ (11-6 overall, 8-3 WHAC) matchup is Wednesday, January 19th when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to play against Concordia University. This game will tip-off at 7:30 PM.
