GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced late Tuesday night the official WHAC Tournament Seedings for this year’s Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The men’s basketball team saw their name called late Tuesday night by the WHAC grabbing the 8th seed overall in the tournament this year. It officially marks the 2nd time in the modern era for the Blue Devils to make the playoffs. Both playoff appearances come at Josh Pickens’ helm in his 4th season as the Blue Devils head coach. Since Coach Pickens has taken over in Southfield, the Blue Devils have become successful on the court, including now two playoff appearances.
The seedings and pairings for the 2020-21 WHAC Men’s Basketball Tournament have Rochester as the top seed of the eight teams that qualified. The Warriors captured their first WHAC championship with a 10-1 league record for the No. 1 seed.
Tournament seeds were calculated based on the Big South Model using a weighted combination of winning percentage and the percentage of scheduled conference games played. The formula used was (Winning percentage x 0.7) + (percentage of conference games played x 0.3) = score.
The tournament opens Feb. 25, with semifinals slated for Feb. 27 and the championship on Mar. 1. The higher seeds host and spectator policies immediate to local and state guidelines will be followed at each location.
