Men’s Basketball Punches Playoff Ticket

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The men’s basketball hit the hardwood in the Don Ridler Field House Tuesday night in a back-to-back conference matchup taking on UNOH. The result was the Blue Devils grabbing the win 89-82, securing the 8th seed for the Blue Devils.

It marks the second time the Blue Devils have made the playoffs in the modern era. Both trips to the playoffs have come during the Josh Pickens era of Blue Devils basketball, with the first playoff appearance in the modern era coming in 2018.

The Blue Devils Tuesday night shot 29-55, shooting 52.7% from the field; they also shot 14-31, shooting 45.2% from beyond the arc. The charity stripe was favorable to the Blue Devils, going 17-27, shooting 63% Tuesday. Overall, the Blue Devils grabbed 33 rebounds, had 19 assists, 2 steals, 7 blocks, and 8 turnovers Tuesday night.

Sophomore Brandon Beavers led the way Tuesday for the Blue Devils with a double-double dishing out 12 assists and 28 pts. Carter Frantz and Alek Ivanovic both had 14 pts. Gunnar Gustafson had 13 pts, while Tyler Balon had 9 pts, and Isaiah Cumberland had 7 pts. It was Cumberland’s first game back after an extended absence for the Junior.

Looking ahead, the Blue Devils hit the road as the 8th seed in the WHAC tournament heading to the 1 seed Rochester University who beat Cornerstone late Tuesday night for first place. Tip-offs slated for 5 pm in Garth Pleasant Arena in Rochester, Michigan.
