Men’s Basketball Wins Easy at Home

Southfield, Mich – The Lawrence Technological University men’s basketball team returned to action when they played the University of Michigan-Dearborn at home on Monday night, January 10th. LTU got out to an early lead in the first half and never looked back as they beat UMD by a final score of 72-47.

Brandon Beavers led all scorers with 18 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Gunnar Gustafson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Alek Ivanovic and Sanna Sisawo both had nine points of their own.

LTU jumped out to an 8-0 run to start this game from Ivanovic and Beavers three-pointers, and a Gustafson made layup.

With 14:47 in the first half, Sisawo hit a three extending the lead to 17-5.

On the next possession, a Beavers steal led to a Blake Lund three-pointer on the other end.

Giving the Blue Devils a 20-point lead was Isaiah Cumberland‘s made jump shot with just under 12 to play.

Reid Sellers made it 29-11.

With 6:59 remaining, Beavers connected on another three making it 38-12 that led to a UMD timeout.

A couple of possessions later after the timeout, Gustafson was able to deliver home a dunk to make it 43-23.

With 1:23 left in the half, Arthur Asberry drained a corner three.

On the very next possession, Beavers found himself alone in transition when he slammed home a dunk right before the half.

LTU would enter the locker room up 51-26.

The Blue Devils shot the ball 20-of-34 (58.8%) from the field, and connected on 11-of-21 (52.4%) from deep. 

The momentum continued in the second half for the Blue Devils when Ivanovic hit another three-pointer making it 59-37 with 13:06 to play.

Maurice Anderson made a layup, right before Sisawo knocked down a three on the other end.

With 6:43 left in the second half, Beavers found a slipping Gustafson when he rose up for the dunk. The lead for LTU was 66-41.

Troy Campbell cut the lead back to 21 after his made pull up jumper.

On LTU’s last possession, Lund drilled a three to secure the win for LTU by a final score of 72-47.

The Blue Devils shot the ball 27-of-63 (42.9%), 15-of-39 (38.5%) from three, and 3-of-8 (37.5%) from the line.

The team ended with 48 rebounds, 19 assists, and 10 steals.

The Blue Devils (10-5) return to the court on Wednesday, January 12th when they play Aquinas College on the road. This game will tip-off at 8 PM.
