Southfield, Mich – The Lawrence Technological University men’s basketball team hosted Lourdes University at home on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils had four out of their five starters in double figures tonight to help them lead their team past the Gray Wolves by a final score of 81-75.

Brandon Beavers was the leading scorer for the game with 20 points to go along with nine assists and four steals, Carter Frantz and Gunnar Gustafson both pitched in 14 of their own, and Alek Ivanovic had 17 points and six boards. Andrew Rinn added 11 off the bench.

Gustafson led things off for LTU with a made layup off the tip. Both teams were neck and neck for the majority of the first half, as the biggest lead was only 11 for Lourdes.

A Rinn three-point shot gave the Blue Devils a 12-7 lead with 13:50 left in the first half.

After Rinn’s three, the Gray Wolves went on an 11-0 run to give them a 21-12 lead. LTU was forced to call a timeout with nine minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

Right out of the timeout, Beavers came out and drained a three to add to his four on the game to end the Lourdes run.

Two buckets from Ivanovic and Rinn cut the lead back to four points, 29-25, with just under four minutes to go.

A couple of minutes later, both teams went cold from the field. At the 2:44 mark, Beavers hit another three to bring the lead within one point at 34-33.

Layups from Little Anderson and Nick Welch made it 38-35.

With just under a minute to play, Frantz found himself at the line to hit two free throws to tie the game at 40 apiece.

Jackie Harris came down for Lourdes with a made layup, and Beavers ended the half with a made layup on the other end.

The score was tied 42-42 going into halftime.

The Blue Devils shot the ball 16-of-31 (51.6%), 8-of-19 (42.1%) from deep, and only 2-of-3 (66.7%) from the line.

The start of the second half was a back and forth battle as both teams traded baskets.

Rinn drilled a three-pointer three minutes into the second half.

Isaiah Cumberland was able to get himself going with a three-ball from the corner to give his team a 56-52 lead with 14:35 remaining.

A Frantz three, and two Gustafson buckets gave LTU a 12-point lead with just over 10 minutes left.

Both teams could not buy a basket during the next three minutes of action.

A Beavers’ steal and run-out led to a massive dunk on the other end, which forced Lourdes to call a timeout.

Out of the timeout, McRay White made back-to-back layups and Brett Lauf hit a three-pointer, cutting the lead to 67-62 with 5:47 to go.

Back-to-back triples from Beavers and Frantz made it 75-64.

Ivanovic hit another one from downtown to go along with the team’s 17 three-pointers on the night, to give the Blue Devils an 11-point lead with under a minute left.

Lourdes was forced to play the fouling game down the stretch, but could not make a comeback.

The Blue Devils won this game 81-75.

LTU shot the ball 31-of-61 (50.0%) from the field, a season-high 17-of-40 (42.5%) from three, and 2-of-6 (33.3%) from the charity stripe.

The Blue Devils’ (7-4) next matchup is Wednesday night, December 8th at home when they take on Madonna University. This game will tip-off at 6:00 PM.
